Magic’s relationship with colors is…complicated. The color pie is ever-changing and inconsistent, rules for colors and color identities are complex, and mana bases require a PhD in mathematics to accurately craft.
Today, we’re happy to announce changes to how we handle colors and color identity that might make it easier to search about color:
- You can use nicknames for color groupings from lore, such as color:esper.
- For color range comparison, you can use
<,>,<=,>=,=, and!=. - You can still use the
colorandidentityoperators as you have previously.
Some examples of searches you can now make:
- color:azorius – All cards that are both blue and white.
- identity<=artifice – Cards you can play in your Breya, Etherium Shaper commander deck (sorted by EDHREC rank).
- identity:jeskai is:commander – Commanders with a Jeskai color identity.
- colors=4 – Four-colored cards.
- colors:jund block:ala – Jund-colored cards from Alara block
- color:multicolored colors>r (type:instant or type:sorcery) – multicolored instants and sorceries for your base-red Cloven Casting deck.
- identity<=esper identity>colorless type:artifact – Colored artifacts you can play in your Sydri, Galvanic Genius commander deck (sorted by EDHREC rank).
- color:lee – Lee Sharpe’s favorite cards.
